RED CARPET & BACKSTAGE
On the Red Carpet is an intense environment There are numerous procedures one needs to follow and in the end the venue will assign each and everyone a space to achieve an opportunity to document all the artists who are participating at each event.
Everyone with credentials (after waiting to get them), may then wait another two to four more hours depending on the venue. Somehow a frenzy always seem to break out. Numerous high-strung paparazzi style photographers, who let me remind you have a designated spot, start hyperventilating running rapidly up and down press row.
This behavior interfering with hosts of other, waiting to get their chance these other selfish photographers already received.
Press row always seems to be divided by tribal affiliation and by that I mean who’s connected to whom. It’s never been a competitive for me, but the behavior I’m surrounded by always says something totally different.
White Press Core Vs. Black Press Core And to my surprise some black artists only feeling validated by one press core over the other, by not sharing the amount of time needed to document them or not stopping at all.
And in the end despite the high stress Red Carpet environment, I’ve always came away with some amazing images in my quest to preserve, document and archives the creative spirits in black entertainment.
These small glitches coupled with chaotic behaviors brought dread when ask to be apart of future event and I eventually refused to take part in them.
